The P1vital CNS experimental medicine consortium agreement became effective in May 2007 and its significant achievements prompted the current consortium members (AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Lundbeck, Organon (a subsidiary of Merck) and Pfizer) to initiate discussions on a second consortium to build on this initial success. Consortium II will build on some of the successful themes of the current P1vital consortium (e.g. depression, cognitive deficits in schizophrenia, cognitive disorders, fMRI) and explore additional areas (e.g. bipolar disorder), and technologies (e.g. EEG, MEG, MRS). The first planning meeting for P1vital Consortium II was held on 11th March 2009 in Nice, France and the second planning meeting was held on 15 – 16 June 2010 in Oxford, UK. If you would like further information on Consortium II or to discuss how your company could become involved please contact us.

For a pharmaceutical company to establish CNS Experimental Medicine Models there would be an immediate requirement to validate novel assays with standards and to develop processes to enable rapid, accurate and reliable throughput of compounds. A cost-effective way for pharmaceutical companies to achieve this goal is to use the expertise of P1vital and its academic network for the validation process. P1vital recognised that the path forward was to establish a Pre-competitive Pharma Consortium in CNS Experimental Medicine. This enables the sharing of initial costs and risks across client companies and subsequent access to a comprehensive database for standards without compromising confidentiality or intellectual property.
