Research Assistant

We have a job opportunity available for a 12-month research assistant post at P1vital Products Ltd. The role will involve supporting a trial of a novel digital intervention to reduce intrusive memories of trauma in healthcare staff.

Title: Research Assistant
Position type: Fixed term contract, full-time, for 12 months (starting as soon as possible)
Location: P1vital Products Ltd, Manor House, Howbery Park, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, OX10 8BA (Due to COVID-19, both office-based and remote working will be required initially)
Reports to: Senior Research Clinical Psychologist

Roles and Responsibilities:

We have an excellent opportunity for an individual with an interest in digital research studies, with a focus on the area of digital interventions in mental health. P1vital Products Limited (PPL) is a leader in developing software and products for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. Reporting to the Senior Research Clinical Psychologist, the Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting the clinical research studies evaluating a remotely delivered psychological intervention for ICU staff experiencing intrusive memories of traumatic events from working in the COVID-19 pandemic, a project funded by a Wellcome Trust grant to Professor Emily Holmes.

The position will involve:
• Assisting the recruitment of appropriate individuals for the clinical research studies
• Assisting scheduling participant appointments at the rate needed to meet project deadlines
• Conducting screening and informed consent with participants via phone/video call
• Monitoring data completion daily and supporting participants in the acquisition of outcome data, in particular the primary outcome measure
• Assisting in delivering the digital intervention
• Assisting with monitoring and analysis of study data and study progress
• Maintaining adequate records of each subject’s participation, including informed consent,
inclusion/exclusion criteria, study activities and adverse events
• Assisting in organising and storing electronic and paper documents according to study and company protocols
• Assisting in organising project team meetings, keep minutes, and manage agendas and actions
• Reading and following study protocols and documents with care
• Completing tasks to deadlines and responding to requests/feedback from senior study team
• Reporting to Senior Clinical Psychologist / the wider study team as appropriate promptly on any clinical, research or administrative issues and particular challenges as they arise
• Working with other study team members and collaborators
• Being based at P1vital offices and attending regular weekly meetings/additional meetings in person as requested
• Being prepared to work flexibly from time to time at evenings and weekends to fit around the needs of study participants
• Receiving training in good clinical practice (GCP) and conducting above activities in accordance with ICH E6 (R2) GCP guideline
• Working in accordance with the Company’s Policies and SOPs

Skills and experience:

• Undergraduate degree (minimum 2:1) in Psychology or related discipline
• Research experience in psychology and/or mental health
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
• Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
• Positive and sociable interpersonal manner
• Ability to work effectively with others
• Ability to learn quickly and respond to critical feedback
• Willingness to report challenges at work as and when they arise
• Action-focused, able to respond quickly to instruction

• Prior experience of conducting clinical research studies to ICH E6 (R2) Good Clinical Practice standards
• Ability to conduct literature searches
• Experience of using referencing software (e.g. Endnote or Zotero)
• Creative problem solving ability
